Colostomy Leaks advice
Post Body

There is a general amount of venting here. But also a huge appeal for advice, as I’m somewhat lost about what to do.

I’ve a colostomy. I had lots of complications initially, with infections which has left me with a ridge of my outer edge of the stoma and what I refer to the Grand Canyon on the side nearer my belly button. I’ve also had multiple issues with infected hair follicles meaning I’m finishing a dry dressing to treat that.

Current routine:

Clean up in shower Dab dry Powder Adhesive wipe remover Paste into the Grand Canyon Cut some duo derm and Aquacell to size and place around Larry my stoma. Apply this Over the duo derm I put to barrier rings Then a Salts Confidence Be convex bag Then multiple flange extenders Then I put my supportive belts on for a period to help get a good seal.

What I’m finding particularly at the minute is the number of leaks im getting. It’s pretty warm here in the UK right now.

I’ve spoken to my nurse just the other week and she was happy with my methodology and suggested the leaks were due to my body changes. I’ve lost about 3kg. But I’d done this before all the leaks.

I’m also due to see a derm for all my skin issues related to what I presume is my crohns and/or humira. Mix of dry and greasy skin everywhere. All I know is it hurts and is irritating

When I had a good seal I get 2- 3 days of use. Which I want to try and replicate otherwise I’m putting my skin under extra stress.

Don’t really know what I’m after. Just any advice or suggestions or what maybe to speak to my team about. I’m feeling a bit lost this last few months

Thanks
