Just an idea I have floating around my skull.

I have had this idea bouncing around my head for a few weeks since I found out about Retro Phaze and RemiNES - What if there were another game system that had a unified core system and had "overlays" of various types of retro video games? What I'm thinking here would be the equivalent of the Old World of Darkness ruleset, were one unified system is overlaid with genre specific rules, without all of the overpowered "the-next-game-is WAY-more-powerful-than-the-last" that White Wolf had going on there. The basic idea would be to come up with a game system stats, heroes and mechanics that can have additional, genre-specific content, like a game specifically for high fantasy-type rpg video games such as Shining Force, one specifically for futuristic video games like Mega Man and one specifically for video games with anthropomorphic animals like Donkey Kong Country. Each game would have specific hero classes, skills, items, enemies, etc, and would still be compatible with other "genre settings," so you could have Donkey Kong fighting along side Tifa Lockhart, Samas and Sonic. It would be similar to an OSR in that it would be rules light-ish, like S&W or LL. Obviously, a project like this would take quite a bit of work to accomplish, therefore, before I start trying to sort my base ideas into something more tangible, I'm throwing this idea out there to see if there is interest in it. What do you think? Worth exploring or figure something else out?
