Here's the story:
Last night I was at home (I live around Sagene). It was after 9 pm when I heard some rattling outside my apartment.
First I didn't pay much attention, thinking it was people walking and chatting outside. But it kept going on and I noticed someone was actually doing something to my door.
I looked through the peephole, but it was covered. I thought someone was just messing around, or maybe it was a drunk neighbor making a joke.
I tried to open the door, but it was blocked. I started calling to them (in English), but only heard some unclear sounds in Norwegian.
At that point, I'd realized there were multiple people outside. After going back and forth for a while, one of them finally understood that I was talking to them in English, and said they're the police.
He gave some instructions on what to do: make sure your hands are empty and visible, and they'll unblock the door, and I have to walk out showing my hands.
So they finally let me out and I walk into the corridor and see six or seven police officers in full tactical gears with guns and shields and the whole shebang. There was also a huge heavy blockade attached to the door.
At this point I'm confused, panicked, and angry, because I have no clue what's going on. They looked at me, and then exchanged some glances with each other.
In retrospect, I can say they'd realized it was a mistake right in the beginning. They asked a few questions, like if I was alone, and if there was anyone else in the house (it was just me).
They said a few words in Norwegian to each other, which I didn't register. Then they said it was probably a mistake. I asked for an explanation and wanted to know what was going on. I was still panicked, and pretty pissed off at this point, but my instincts told me not to say anything to provoke them at that point.
They left, but a few minutes later, they came back (this time they knocked). They asked about the building number, which is 29A. Then they tried to explain that they were supposed to go to building 29B, and that was the extent of explanation I got.
They then left me, but I think they still went around inside my building for a good half an hour, even though they said they were at the wrong place.
After their departure, I went to my balcony, and saw a police car and an officer standing outside, staring up at me and guarding the area. When he saw me, he said something into his radio, and I guess got a response about the mistake because he didn't react further. There was also a cameraman outside, waiting for some action.
Anyhow, after the shock was worn off, I got even more pissed off, mostly because they hadn't even checked the address or the building number before going into an extreme operation and causing panic. I don't know, maybe it was extreme in my opinion because I have no clue how common these things are in Norway or Oslo. I wouldn't be surprised to experience such a thing in the US. They just come in, shoot first, and then ask questions, but that was one of the last things I expected to see here. And then it was the lack of explanation, or even a simple apology, which made me more furious. I'm now thinking of making a complaint, but not sure to whom I should reach out. I guess the police?! I also wonder how would a Norwegian react if they were in my place.
I've been searching in the news since last night, and so far I haven't heard or seen anything about what was it all about, and what they were actually doing.
a similar situation happened to my older brother but much worse. They actually RAMMED down the door and did a full search of the apartment looking for drugs of which they found none of. The police in desperation found some old joint butts and claimed they found 5 grams worth of weed.
turns out that they had been parked outside in a surveillance van for 3 days spying on him, all based off a message to buy weed for 200kr a week prior. the police fined him for 4000kr and reported him but all charges were dropped after they sent in a complaint, however they would not replace the door which costs a surprisingly large amount of money. All of this time and resources spent based on a 200kr request to buy weed
