Tips on adding an o-scope to my record player? How does this work?

Hey,
Complete osci noob here, I know knothing about them barring that they look cool.
So is is true that I can have my record player feed running through an o-scope to visualize the analog current? Will this make the current worse because it runs through another channel? Also, can I split the player feed from my turntable so one goes to my o-scope and the other goes to my stereo/speakers?
