So video game adaptations seem to becoming ever growing in Hollywood. However, most of them don’t seem to be greenlit for reasons besides being general money making crowd pleasers. But if they continue growing popular, do you think there would be any video games that could be adapted into an Oscar contender?
The only one announced I think that has a shot is Dredge. Dredge is an indie game where you ride a boat and fish in a lovecraftian inspired sea. I feel like games like those are going to be ones that could be adapted well into contenders for things like best adapted screenplay and stuff, indie games that don’t have a very strict narrative to follow but have tons of thematic potential.
