Rolled my ankle playing rugby 10 weeks ago, sharp pain and a cracking sound heard/felt, sore to bear weight but played on regardless. At end of game took boot off, and it was instantly more painful, took about an hour before I managed to hobble back to the car.
Initially treated by physio as sprain, after xray confirmed no break, but a couple of false starts at rugby training (and a game), ankle gets very sore and swollen after. Referred to sports med doctor who suspected syndesmosis injury, injected cortisone and gave me a referral for an MRI in case that didn't settle it. 2 weeks later still hasn't settled so I am off for an MRI, but I didn't discuss with the doctor what the treatment would be if it was a partial or full tear of the syndesmosis, so what am I possibly in for?
How likely is a significant tear given that I can walk reasonably normally (up/down hills is hard as is running and changing directions).
Obviously not expecting a diagnosis over the net - I will see the doctor early next week, I'm just curious (worried) because of where my googling has landed me.
