Unfortunately photos do not do these justice! They hang on my wall and are living art imo. :)
These are the first 2 orchids I ever tried mounting, it’s been a full year now and the roots are fully attached to the wood. (I’ve tried removing most of the elastic string I used but the roots have grown over some of it. It’s more useful than fishing wire imo as it degrades.)
The larger one has given me 2 new leaves and it just sprouted it’s first flower spike.
The smaller one has given 2 leaves (one lost it’s end when my child shut the patio door on it lol) and has a new one just coming out. No flower spike yet this season.
I used to have a complicated dunking regime to water them but now I just run them under the tap every 2-3 days and use a spray version of orchid specific fertilizer on the leaves and roots twice a week!
For anyone curious these guys hang on a wall right by a North facing window (I’d be remiss to not mention they’re near a 32w grow light but they’re adjacent, not underneath) with no humidity. The dry spots are from when I first mounted and was only watering once a week.
