Hey!
First off, thanks a ton for your work here /u/oratory1990. Your contribution to the community is awesome.
I'm a little new to EQing headphones, as I used to be of the mindset that I shouldn' need to EQ headphones, but I've sort of seen the light in a sense, and I think it's something everyone should do.
I do, however, have a couple of questoins that I can't seem to make sense of that I'm hoping someone here could help me understand a little more.
So I used to just throw the Auto EQ presets into my EQAPO .config text file and call it a day, but I recently tried Oratory1990's EQ target and it's pretty great. I'm running into some problems though, and I have a little bit of confusion. So here is the EQ preset I'm using for the Hifiman Ananda below:::
Preamp: -7.8 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain 2.3 dB Q 1
Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 970 Hz Gain -1.8 dB Q 4
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 1770 Hz Gain 6.5 dB Q 1.1
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 3100 Hz Gain -2.8 dB Q 2
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 6400 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 6
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 7000 Hz Gain 2.5 dB Q 1.4
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 8050 Hz Gain -2.6 dB Q 6
Filter 9: ON HSC Fc 10000 Hz Gain -0.5 dB Q 0.71
A very generous reddit user from another thread I had posted in the past took the time to write this out in plaintext, and the filter above is what I had posted into my config file. For context, I'm blind, so as a result, I'm unable to take Oratory's EQ measurements and manually input the information unfortunately, so I had to rely on the kindness of this redditor to take the .pdf file and type it into a format that I can simply paste into the .config file.
The thing that confuses me, however, is when I was using the Auto EQ profiles, there were ten filters total. But here, there only seems to be 9. Is this a mistake, or is this intentional? I know it's a ten band EQ that I'm using, but I suppose I never considered the fact that you don't necessarily have to use all 10 bands, haha.
Also, to my understanding, you should only set the preamp to - the highest dB gain, so why did this user in particular put a -7.8dB preamp gain when the highest positive gain is 6.5?
Very new to this stuff, so my apologies if any of this stuff is a given or common sense, but I'm eager to hear what you guys have to say about this! (:
