Not to beat a dead horse about the housing crisis, but
Post Body

Genuinely do not see how things are going to get better. I check Zillow at least once a week, as well other websites that list inventory, and it just keeps getting worse. According to some articles I read online, interest rates are going to increase slightly or remain relatively the same through 2024. My rent has slowly increased 400 dollars since 2021, basically 10% per year, yet my salary has not been increased by that much. I save a reasonable chunk of my paycheck, as well as my fiancé, but if rent keeps increasing the way it is, I will not be able to save virtually anything in 5 years time.

People who have low mortgages don’t want to sell because they can’t afford anything if they do. People who have good interests rates don’t want to sell. So inventory is at an all time low, interests are the highest they have been in 2 decades, and prices are going up. So who can afford homes? Well thus far in 2023, 26% of single family home sales in the U.S. were done by large corporations (i.e. BlackRock, AirBnB, etc.) and then rent them out to families.

Not only has housing been taking a shit on us, but groceries are insanely expensive, even though the large grocery chains are posting recording breaking profits. My gas bill for my condo has tripled over the last 2 years, despite no changes to our habits. I actually had someone from socal gas come out and check our meter not too long ago because I thought maybe there was a leak. Our water/electricity bill also saw a significant increase. I know it maybe unpopular to suggest government intervention, but holy hell do we need something to be done.

this video helped me get a better understanding of everything. A good (or depressing) watch if you’re interested.

I wish they wouldn’t take pictures of me on my days off.

Went to college, have a credit score of 800 , no debt, and do not enjoy avocado toast or starbucks daily. I guess ill also learn HVAC or how to lay carpet in the downtime from my full-time job so my fiance and I can, who also works full-time, afford to purchase a one bedroom condo to live in for the rest of our lives and have no children. What great ideas!

That's honestly such an unspoken problem of south OC most people don't realize. The amount of lobbying and influence from oil and car manufactures had on zoning laws in south OC is wild. You can't have homes x distant from businesses and certain types of businesses. You must have a car to live here. So go ahead guys, milk this cash cow for all he's worth!

I shit you not, last time I posted about this, a guy came in here to say that his dad had to sell the familys beloved porsche to put the down payment on their first home for 20k. The disconnect between the generations is wild.
