UPDATE: just updating in case anyone in the future has a similar issue. Nothing was found in a hematology work up, and by that Friday when I saw the retina specialist again, the CRVO had resolved itself (no more clot could be seen, veins looked less tortuous). A weird thing, but a happy ending!
Hi all!
I’m 25 with no comorbities that are typically associated with CRVO, which I was recently diagnosed with. I woke up with blurry vision in the middle of my L eye, but it was gone by the next day. Went to the eye doctor anyway, and they noticed a blood clot, tortuous veins, “leaking” macula and optic disc, and some inflammation of the optic nerve. I saw a retina specialist and a neuro ophthalmologist who said there isn’t any optic nerve damage and pretty confidently ruled out brain tumor and MS as being a cause.
I have an appointment with a hematologist on Monday, so hopefully they brings me some answers, but I’m just curious if anyone who had CRVO (or had a patient with it) experienced it with seemingly no contributing causes or explanations, and if they ended up discovering what the cause was after bloodwork or further testing. While I’m not hopeful that I have a blood disorder, the idea of it just having no known cause as a healthy 25y is admittedly just as frightening.
