My first time making a router for my internet. Is using a switch necessary?
Post Body

This is my first time doing this so I am learning as I go. I am trying to make a simple modem router setup for my home network.

My plan:

Modem: Arris S33 v2

Router: Topton firewall router from aliexpress (here) with Intel n100 processor. It has 4 intel ethernet ports on it. Going to put Samsung 16gb DDR5 4800MHz sodimm RAM and a Western Digital SN810 NVMe 512gb SSD in it. Then install OPNsense on it.

I currently only have 1 pc I plan on connecting to the network wired. All the other devices in my house will be connected wirelessly. I don't have any cameras. So really I only need 2 LAN ports for my pc, and a wireless access point. The wireless AP I am using is the TP-LINK TL-WA1201. It comes with a passive PoE injector that I'm planning on using so I only have to run 1 ethernet cable to it inside of 2 (ethernet power cord).

Does it make a difference in performance if I were to just use 2 of the 4 ports on the Topton router (1 for my pc, and 1 for my WAP) versus using a switch instead?

Thank you!!
