Blocking all services of a specific company

I am trying to decrease my "data footprint" by blocking all services by companies known for tracking and hoarding data.
I have installed the AdBlock package and added facebook . com and a couple other top Level Domains to the blacklist but the sites still come up. What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way to do this?
