Hello everyone.

I've played a bit with opencv and got some basic things/tests working in a quick-and-dirty fashion with python-opencv. I'm currently experimenting with ubuntu 16.04, opencv 3.4.7, and python 2.7 & 3.5 but not "married" to any version. I'm using VirtualBox for the moment, but will eventually have this on dedicated hardware.

What are your recommendations for OS/python/opencv version "combinations"? I seem to be having trouble making opencv work in python 3 due to not being able to see the cv2 module, and having some issues in 2.7.x as well.

I'm sure this is all because I'm all noobie at linux AND opencv, but for a beginner with very basic requirements, I know you all will know best what to use with what...

I will be using template matching and OCR. I have an application in mind to work in conjunction with a CNC and only need the Matching and the OCR.
