Rented a place for ten years, landlord wants me to pay for a broken mirrored sliding closet door. Can I argue wear and tear?

Post Body

I’ve rented an apartment for ten years and my landlord wants me to pay for a broken sliding closet mirrored door. This condo was built twenty years ago. I argue wear and tear but he says that’s not considered wear and tear.

He’s asking over $1,000 for replacement and installation for a cracked mirrored sliding closet door. Am I responsible to pay full value for a new sliding mirror closet door? Am I right to argue wear and tear?

Finally, if I am expected to pay, can I not argue that these closet doors are twenty years old and I shouldn’t be expected to pay for new doors? If anything, I would consider paying the value of a twenty year old used closet door. I don’t feel like I should be replacing a used item with a brand new item for my landlord after renting for ten years. Is this a valid argument?

This is the crack in question
