Finally venturing into other socials like instagram and woo boy, is it a struggle!! Reddit has treated me very well but I’m a month in and it’s time to expand my horizons. BUT! GOSH!! Is it difficult.
I’m overthinking EVERYTHING. How does the background look, is the video too blurry, too grainy, how’s the angle? I’m studying other creators vids and god, when I try to recreate what they’re doing, I can’t even get through a ten second vid. I have autism, and this feels like the ultimate form of masking. And it just seems like they’re doing it so EFFORTLESSLY, meanwhile I’m struggling to memorize a fifteen second sound. All I want to do is create some simple videos, but it’s like I freeze up every time I try. I just keep overthinking. I struggle to angle the camera right, I struggle to get good lighting, and in my mind, I’m constantly thinking, “how the HELL are people doing this??” This seems like a form of modern day torture lol.
In case anyone else is too overwhelmed and completely lost when it comes towards other social medias, here’s what I’ve done so far:
Follow other creators. Pick ONE or TWO creators and just copy their videos but add your own zest to them. Limiting the amount of creators at the start makes it feel a lot less overwhelming, so I’ve learned. If they use captions, don’t just copy them completely, make them personalized for YOU.
Here’s a new plan I’ve just come up with. Instead of getting all pretty and going in front of the camera, only to end up frustrated because I put so much effort in only to end up with zilch— I’m going to work on becoming more comfortable and learn what works for ME. And to do that, I’m thinking I’m just going to get in front of the camera, no makeup or fancy outfits, and try to become more comfortable over the camera. I’m going to spend a day testing different camera positions, rooms, day lighting, artificial lighting, settings. With only the expectation of learning, rather than creating viable content to post. Then, I’ll use that knowledge to create actual content.
Maybe this will help somebody else? I’ll update you guys on how it goes. Gosh, I hope this works, or else I’m going to lose my mind lol.
Appreciate the tips! I’m about to expand into instagram as well so these pointers are helpful.
Probably best to feel relaxed and natural in front of the camera because folks can tell when things look forced.
Good luck!
