Treaded tire for the city?

I have an XR that I commute to work with in Boston. (2 mi Mostly back streets and sidewalks). I’m worried about the weather as it gets worse through the year. I plan to use this as a year round commuter and don’t want to whip out on the way if possible. Is it worth getting a treaded tire (been eyeing the FF treaded) well before my Vega wares out?
