Google Photos and Oxygen Gallery giving me a hard time

So today I switched to my new OnePlus 8 from Nokia 7 Plus which was a stock android.

I was using Google Photos on Nokia 7 plus which I love absolutely. Now the problem is that I want google photos to be my default gallery for which I changed the default app settings yet when I try to send a photo through WhatsApp, the photos shown are only those that came with WhatsApp backup and a few that I clicked here on OnePlus. None of the backed up photos in Google Photos comes up.

Also someone noticed that even after you delete photos from google photos, they stay in OnePlus Gallery which ultimately chunks up your storage.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
