DTS is destroying me; any tips?

Doing my first RL1 run, and I am hard stuck on DTS. I dunno if I'm being too aggressive or misreading his attacks, but he's killed me over 130 times. Any advice for him?
Edit: Beat him! 148 deaths; 3 attempts after switching to cragblade cold iron balls lmao. Meta is meta, I guess.
