Eagle Creek Original Pack-It vs Specter

Post Body

So I'm about to purchase my first real backpack, and I believe I've decided on the Kathmandu Litehaul 38L .. I like the simplicity of it both in terms of compartments and looks, as well as being able to add the Litehaul 12L Plus 1 for longer trips, tho I don't really fancy the whole wearing it in the front look lol. I'd also like to invest in a few good packing cubes as well to help keep things organized and fitting snugly. I've been reading good things about Eagle Creek, and for the price it seems like a great first purchase. I'm trying to decide between these three versions:

  • Pack-it Original Cube Set XS/S/M
  • Pack-it Specter Tech Cube Set XS/S/M
  • Pack-it Specter Tech Compression Cube Set S/M

From what I can gather the Specter tech line is lighter.. but how much of a difference does that really make? And how much more compression do you get from the Specter line than the Original line? And also, what is the best option for dirty clothes? I feel like compression would be good for dirty since wrinkles are less of an issue.

Due to busy season starting at work I won't be able to take any long trips until at least July, and I am planning on doing a month or two all together this summer, but I am going to Austin in a couple weeks for a few days so I will be able to get my first "test-run" in.

Any and all recommendations, input, and info will be greatly appreciated in helping me learn!

Thanks and Happy New Year!!
