Planning to travel Europe for 3 months in months Aug-Nov

Here's a rough packing list I've put together. I've only listed below the main/big items that'll take room when packing. I'm indecisive about the luggage arrangement I'll go with. Options are,

1) carry on suitcase 35l personal item bag 28l - why? be mobile, and cheaper in between flights
2) check-in medium suitcase 60l personal item bag 28l - want to buy things to bring back home for family/friends

I'm pretty active so wouldn't mind carrying suitcases upstairs in need be!
