Post Body

My daughter gave up her dummy by herself very young, rejecting it at 3 or 4 months. Since then a bottle of milk to suck at bedtime and naptime has been our one foolproof method for a quiet night. She has been showing signs of being ready to move on and so tonight I put her to bed with her normal bottle filled with water and her milk in a sippy cup she knows how to use. I asked her to choose which one she wants to hold while we read some stories and then snuggled her down to sleep. As I left the room she realised that I would not be putting milk in her normal cup. We only have 2 months until she is 2 and dental health is really important. It's important we do this now. She is distraught. Inconsolable. Poor thing couldn't breastfeed and the bottle was how we bonded, and a deep source of relief in her earliest days when she was starving as we tried breastfeeding. Neither one of us is ready and I don't know what to do. It feels like suddenly I'm asking her not to be a baby anymore and I don't want her to grow up too quick. Harder to let go when you don't get to have those moments with another child. I feel so mean. All we can do it hug it out, feel the big feelings and hope for an easier tomorrow.
