Hostess and to go position
Post Body

Hi everyone, I have an interview on Tuesday for both the hostess and to go position and I am incredibly nervous. I've never had any restaurant experience so this will be my absolute first time. I'm not sure which position would be a better fit for me and hopefully not as stressful because of this, but after looking through a bunch of posts last night, it seemed like people thought hostess was the best starting off point job and then after you gain experience, you can try out to go. I also saw though at least one person said their manager was very hesitant to hire new people to the restaurant industry because there was so much to the job, but is that right? I thought the hostess job was basically you greet everyone that comes in, take phone calls, manage the seating chart, take people to their tables and get them comfortable, and maybe help the bussers and servers if they need extra help. Is there more than that? I also don't know anything about the typical shifts (do you work 4 hrs, do you work 6 hrs, do you work 8 hrs?), I couldn't really find that out. My restaurant is open from 11 AM-11 PM if that helps. Do you guys feel like you enjoyed your time there and were treated well? I think that's one of the biggest anxiety inducing things for me, I really want to do a good job and I want to enjoy my time there, I don't want to be miserable or constantly freaked out (I have anxiety anyway, so hopefully it isnt a bad job for me). But anyway, ANY words of comfort, encouragement or knowledge are SO welcome, any bit helps. Thank you so much you guys and hope you are having a good day!

Oh side note! So my interview is Tues the 8th and I don't know how fast they tend to hire you (meaning how soon after you come in for training). I have 2 other jobs i'm looking into so i'll prob need a day or 2 to make a final decision after hearing from all 3 places (last interview is the next day), hopefully that's okay but that is my situation. I was also hoping if I DID get it, I could maybe start the 17th (week and 2 days after interview) , since I have some family stuff to take care of before then and I also want some time to get some work clothes since I have none. Do you think they'd be okay with that or no? Of course too, I would tell them ALL this, it would not be a surprise. They would know on interview day.
