Need help finding soup reciepe

My grandma (born 1939) used to make a soup she called "stodger" for us growing up. It was a basic soup with ground beef, carrots, onions, etc in a chicken broth base. The main star of the soup is the noodles. They are thick and chewy and hearty. She would make them by hand on her kitchen counter and cook them like dumplings. We are from western Pennsylvania with many German and Irish roots. Any help is appreciated.
