Can I spot clean a dry clean only wool coat?

I thrifted a really great yellow wool coat/jacket today. Super new condition - but there is a small stain next to one of the buttons that resembles soy sauce or barbecue sauce.
Will I ruin this coat if I spot clean it with a small brush and some borax?
