I have a dinner event coming up and the dress code is formal/cocktail. I hate heels but I either want to wear a dress or I want to wear a dressy but androgynous outfit. I’ve looked around for androgynous outfit ideas but mostly it seems my option is some variation of a suit/slacks/dress shirt combo and I don’t want that either. What are some other options that don’t look like: lady in a suit? Is my only option for this dressing masculine? I’m not opposed, I actually often buy guys clothing. I’m just kinda disappointed that the representation is so narrow.
I am hoping for something more like a dress but not a frilly hyper femme cocktail dress that requires heels. Something classy and elegant with an androgynous twist. I just want a more expansive representation of androgynous than: guy in dress/lady in suit. What are some good places for inspiration? Or what can you suggest I try for combos, etc?
My style is kinda playful, sexy librarian ish. A smidge vintage. I enjoy adding little details like a mini switchblade necklace, or cut out panels that aren’t obvious on first pass.
