I have seen multiple teachers on facebook saying the protests at this point are not about getting a bigger raise for themselves, but about more classroom funding and guaranteeing the revenue sources. I believe them.
But I think a lot is getting lost in the translation and people are talking past each other. The official union position seems to be that the walkout won't end until the teachers all get a $10K raise - which appears to be a mischaracterization of the teacher's remaining needs and demands. Still though - it is what people are hearing and driving public opinion: "Oklahoma teachers filled the state Capitol for a second day Tuesday, demanding an additional $150 million in school funding and increased raises for themselves and support staff. " https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/03/us/oklahoma-teachers-walkout/index.html
If this standoff with the legislature is to end well, the teachers need to send a very cohesive message to the state, the legislature, the population, and the media - that at this point all they are asking for is the necessary classroom funding and a guarantee of no funding cuts in the future.
This seems like a reasonable ask to reasonable people and should silence the idiots on the radio that keep calling the teachers "greedy for asking for a bigger raise after they already got one".
