Our banned meme list is notorious for being very long and not-so-easy to navigate. For ages it was pretty cluttered and, while functional, a pain in the ass to use.

For the 10 or 20 of you who actually read the banned meme list, however, you will be excited to hear that we have completely redone the list to be more readable and comprehensive. Banned memes are now put into four categories: memes which will get you banned the majority of the time, bans which are still relevant (either due to recency or lack of dying trend), bans that focus on specific characters/people, and bans which are so old that you probably wouldn't post a related meme anyway.

In addition, each category is organized in chronological order from newest to oldest. The most useful update, however, is that each banned meme now contains an example link to provide unaware users a visual example of what a particular banned meme may look like. Each of these examples (except one) are a real post from the subreddit that was successful either before the meme was banned or because they expanded on the format to make something new. Examples were chosen at random and reflect no opinion of quality from anybody on the mod team.

Finally, each banned meme now also contains a link to its original ban announcement. This is mostly for historical purposes and serves no other real use.

We realize most people don't want to bother with reading this list. That's fine. But not reading the list is not a valid excuse to get your post reinstated or your ban lifted. If you post a meme from this list and are punished, that is your own fault. Reciprocally, if you post a meme from the banned meme list and it is not removed, that is our fault.
