This is one of my early builds, based off a kit I came across on eBay that I didnโt trust enough to purchase. The idea of a Jaguar/JM body with a strat style bridge&trem and a strat looking pickup layout seemed almost perfect to me. However, I felt the need to tweak it to my liking.
After shaping the body and neck from wood I bought from an online vendor (which took much longer than I anticipated), shaping the pickguard, paint/finish, I played around with a few different control layout concepts.
What I settled on was a 3 way blade pup selector that worked in tele fashion (N, N B, B) and an individual on/off switch for my middle pickup. The Neck and bridge pups are single coil Seymour Duncanโs, the middle is a Seymour Duncan hot rail. The 4 knobs from top to bottom function as follows: 1st (Top) - spin a split option for the hot rail pickup, pot is a Dual MN taper pot with center detent. Center is full humbucker, and each direction gradually phases north or south coil out to give a full spectrum of tonal variety
2nd - 300k volume pot with teen bleed volume kit
3rd & 4th- master PTB system, functioning for all pickup combinations. I try to install this in all of my guitars just cuz itโs probably the most practical tone control imo. (For those who donโt know what this is, itโs a passive treble and bass tone control system! Allows you to dial in treble and bass cut individually and is typically wired in a way to be a master tone control system for the guitar as a whole, rather than individual tone control for each pickup - thank you Leo fender!)
[Side note: most ppl wouldnโt get their most actively used guitar signed all over the front like this. I however will never regret it, signatures on the front are from the members of the band Spray Allen, which is a fairly new and underground supergroup of sorts, and a couple of my idols happen to be in it - Eric Wilson of Sublime and Wade Youman of Unwritten Law. I had the fortune of seeing them at a smaller club that my band had played at the week prior. And to my surprise, I was easily able to hangout with the band on their bus after the show and they were all more than happy to sign my guitar as we smoked a cigar sized blunt courtesy of Eric wilson ;)]
