PLEASE READ: a MINI or SHORT SCALE jazzmaster will also have a short scale BODY. I’m also asking about the piezo system. I WANT A FULL SIZE BODY ON A 22.5 SCALE NECK WITH A PIEZO SYSTEM.
Hey all!
I’ve been playing guitar for 25 years, and have been a Fender fan for every one of them. I’m by NO MEANS a luthier, but I’ve done a few mods, and my main guitar is a custom Stratocaster I made myself.
I REALLY want to make my girlfriend an electric guitar. She’s an AMAZING singer and performer, she even used to perform with Dolly Parton
But she’s only about 5’2”, and due to spinal condition her, “wingspan” is pretty short. She can play a ukulele and a parlor acoustic guitar, but she really struggles to wrap herself around my Strat.
I wanted to get her a old school Duo-Sonic, because they had a basically full size body on a 22.5 scale neck, but I found they don’t sell ANYTHING in 22.5 scale. They do sell a 3/4 strat neck in 22.75.
WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY QUESTIONS:
- Can I just get a 22.5 (or 3/4) scale and have it fit properly in the a mustang/duo body? Will it intonate properly?
AND
- I want to put a piezo pickup system in it as well as Humbuckers. She’s mostly a singer, and I want her to have a guitar that won’t be louder or more “colorful” than her voice anyways, so I want to use warmer humbuckers (currently thinking about something from an es-175 maybe…) as well as a piezo. Has anyone tried to do this? I know they make piezo bridge/saddle pickup systems. If I have to put the bridge in a different spot to get proper intonation on the short scale, can I use a piezo bridge?
Thanks for your help in advance. My girlfriend is beautiful and amazingly talented, I’d like this to be her Christmas present.
