My dog is old. 19 years old this year, and only recently started slowing down from age and creaky joints. He was a rescue that the shelter found living out on the streets near a very busy tourist location. His name's Gus, he's about as sharp as a sack full of tennis balls, and time was he'd be your best friend if you pet him. He went to the vet today for a bath and a trim, and they told my mom he's gotten more wobbly on his feet. He used to wobble a little, but it's gotten more noticeable. I figured he has another year in him at least, but they said to prepare because a day is coming where he's likely to fall asleep and not wake back up. I know it's coming, that one night I'll come home from work and he'll be gone, curled up like he always is, just quietly resting forever. And it sucks.
