My dad slapped me after I got caught smoking weed the first time and it still messes me up to this day
Post Body

This was five years ago (fall of 2017) and it was at the beginning of my senior year of high school. A month prior was when I started smoking weed. It was 10 o'clock on a Monday night and I had gotten out of work. I did what I've done before, which was smoking a bowl after my shift. The grocery store I was working at was less than 10 minutes from my house, and I decided to smoke literally right down the street from my house since I didn't want to drive far after smoking. I pulled up to my house and I made the rookie mistake of not getting the smell off of me or out of my car.

I walked into the house, said hey to my parents and headed straight upstairs to my room. I took my work clothes off and went to take a shower. About a couple of minutes later, while I was in the shower, I heard the bathroom door open following a few seconds of silence. I initially thought one of my brothers was pulling a prank on me. I said "hello" and someone yelled "you!". My dad violently pulled the shower curtain open, causing it to break and one side of it being broken off the wall. My dad then put his hands around my neck. I tried putting my hands on his hands to free myself but I couldn't, plus because I didn't see it coming I didn't have time to put my hands up to defend myself.

He would then smack me on the side of the head a couple of times, and on one of them he accidentally hit my nose causing bruises around my nostrils. He asked me what I had been smoking in my car (he apparently smelled weed on me when I walked by him) and I immediately said it was weed because I was so scared. My mom had to walk into the bathroom to tell my father to stop and they told me to see them after I finished showering. I finished showering, still frightened, and walked out into the hallway and saw my dad again. He walked up to me and had to most pissed-off look on his face and I put my hand over my neck because I was afraid he was going to do it again. He told me to come downstairs after I get dressed.

I got dressed and during it apparently, my brother (who I shared a room with) told me our parents interrogated him and asked questions like how long I've been doing this. I walked outside and my mom was going through my car and found my bag of weed, my bowl and lighter, and even my Juul. My mom was due to have surgery for a shoulder injury the next day which made her even more pissed off. My parents took me to their room and we talked for at least an hour or two, as they threatened to take my car away. Luckily, I had cross country practice at 5am in the morning (because it was supposed to be in the high 90s later that day), so they didn't end up taking it. After talking to my parents, I went straight to bed. I was legit shaking as I was trying to fall asleep.

That event f--ked me up for a while and it still does to this date. The next day at school was extremely weird as I felt like a zombie. I told my friends what had happened and I'll never forget the looks on their faces. The day after I had a cross country race and it was easily the worst race of my life because my mentality was still screwed up from that night. I developed PTSD from that night and it still bothers me to this date. My parents say that our family could've lost our house or a lot of money if I had gotten pulled over by a cop, but I literally did it less than a quarter of a mile from my house just for that reason. Even though its been five years I still get flashbacks of that event, and once I get my own apartment and move to a different state I plan on cutting off my family, or am I just overreacting?
