background, I'm an openly queer person and using dating apps to meet people. My profile makes it clear I'm a guy but yet "straight" men are generally the one who hit me up then basically admit to me that they are lying to themselves. When I say "I'm sorry I'm not comfortable talking to someone who hides behind straight privilege like that" I'm generally called some names then blocked
Some people get offended over this but those are usually the people who dont get it....
So on a dating app if someone's profile says they are into women and they send me a flirty message I'll ask them if they are straight or not. Most of the time they tell me they are bi and just have themselves listed as straight.
To me, this is a deal breaker and here's why. By listing yourself as straight when you are not means you are most likely straight passing(as much as I dislike that term) meaning, you will not deal with the homophobia and hate that out people deal with. You are hiding being straight privilege yet wanting to be involved with queer relationships. Generally these people also keep you as a secret and won't tell people in their life about you. To me, it's gross and I want no part of it.
Now, this is completely different than you not being able to come out because of your living situation or something like that. But if you just choose to list yourself as straight because it's "easier" then you need to take a good look at why you're doing that and work on unlearning that internal homophobia or whatever keeps you living a lie
