I have a sense of my own morality that is deeply ingrained in me. I'm a socialist/anarchist/communist/I don't know exactly because I think life is short and ultimately meaningless so we should be working together rather than being a bunch of greedy capitalist assholes profiting on each other's misery.

But that's a rant for another day, it just sort of sets the stage for what I'm about to say.

Maybe I know too many philosophy majors or people who fancy themselves as one, but I am sick of pontificating on the meaning of life. It doesn't mean shit. Ultimately the reason to do good isn't to give your life some higher purpose, it's because you don't want to make others suffer. And in turn, they don't make you suffer. But really, you can be some horrible short selling wall street asshole and while you won't have made the world better, it doesn't matter. I feel like a goddamn teenager saying this (I am 32).

So, yeah, everything is meaningless, everything can go to a hell that probably doesn't exist and the all the stars in the sky will still explode. That's what makes being a not shitty person so hard, but I suppose there's some meaning if you're looking for it. Since life sucks, you should work to make this short time we have suck less.

I have accepted that even if I destroy the earth the real answer to why I did it is "because". If someone says I'm an asshole the honest answer is "so?"

I am in no way saying fuck everything and do whatever, but it's difficult to fight these particular feelings. I think because my nihilism is increasing I more than ever want to see people do good. As I said earlier, we only have a short time, and being jerks to each other doesn't help make that time pleasant.
