Why are some people so mean?

I (M20) was walking back to my dorm today, and while I was passing by these two girls I heard one mutter to her friend under her breath “that guy looks like a pedophile”.

I shouldn’t be letting it bother me this much but I’m genuinely pretty upset. Like…is there something wrong with me? Do I look creepy? Do I need to change something about my appearance?

I had just gotten back from absolutely killing a test I honestly thought I was going to fail too. At least I was in a good mood for like 5 minutes.
