Mom's spirit scared the hell out of me

I don't know whether I do or don't believe in spiritual connections after death but a few days after my mom passed away I remember having the feeling of her in the room with me in it freaking me the hell out. I was remember verbally saying, look I love you mom, I miss you. You love me. You miss me. But please don't come back again. And in 3 years I have not had another experience like that.
Could this be in my head or could this be real?
