Alright, this is a crazy one. This relationship has seen a ton of ups and downs. We’ve know each other for 8 years and during that time we’ve been everything from dating, being engaged, fwb and even some periods where we did not date at all. I had asked 3 years ago to either take it seriously and get married or just break up… he basically rejected it and we decided to stay as fwb and slowly wind down the relationship to the point of being just friends or completely breaking it off. It was only supposed to be 1 year but we rode the tribulations of the pandemic together as well as some other milestones that we achieved independently. We reached a point where we would only meet once a week but still talk every day. This month he had gone on a long trip and I did miss talking to him but did not miss the intimacy at all or even saw him in that way anymore… I knew it was time. Welllllll he comes back and I guess he had a revelation or something and NOW he wants to get married! I had to tell him that I want quite the opposite and that we need to just have a strictly platonic relationship if he still wants any more interactions with me. Not sure what he was thinking but he’s 3 years too late. At least he took it in stride and respects my decision.
