Haircut I always went to cheap hair places because my hair is so thin and awful I figured nothing could be done with it. But one day I decided to try and make a difference and get some sort of style into my hair. I went through Groupon because I wanted to try a more expensive place than I would normally have reached out to, but at a rate I could afford. So I buy this Groupon for $150. Regular cuts go for $300. I’m used to paying $20 at Supercuts. So this $150 is a lot to me.

So I go for the consultation first. I give her my hair history. The ups and downs, my issues and my color preferences. She asked for images that I like… I had many, knowing my hair type can NOT accommodate most of these photos, I make sure to have many different types. I showed her and told her I knew most would likely be impossible but I want to give an idea so she can have creative freedom with an idea. After consultation, I come back a week later at scheduled time. I’m made to wait 45 minutes because an old friend of hers had shown up for a cut (male, so short hair, and shouldn’t have gone into my time, though he did look fantastic, I saw before and after pics, so was totally excited about my own upcoming cut). So she works on me. Chats some weird bullshit, Dyes my hair and then leaves to go talk on her phone for an hour while it sets and never checks in on me. Comes back. Rinses me and cuts my hair. Hands me a mirror.

I’m fucking furious but pretend I’m happy, say thank you, tip her excessively on top of this $150 haircut, and walk out with the exact fucking color and haircut that I get from dying myself and going across the street to Supercuts. Maybe there is no other style that works for me. Maybe this is all I can do. I will forever be ugly.

I get it. But $200 vs $20… fuck that. Haven’t tried a “fancy” hair cutting place since.
