Just posted this as a response elsewhere but was very happy with my response. I know my fellow late swing and grave comrades will get me.
Respect works all ways. Having worked graveyard for half of my life, daywalkers, as I like to call them, seem to have no respect for those that work at night. The shade I have seen in response is, “then get a day job” … um okay… So when you get sick at night, I guess you’ll have to wait for morning because all the doctors and nurses are sleeping soundly in bed now. Oh, that’s okay, you say, you’ll watch tv. Nope. There is no TV. Those that are running the broadcasts are also sleeping. I’ll play on my phone? Um, no, there is no internet when there is no one working your internet company (as scandalous as those companies are… still needs people to make sure things are running and beings fixed). You want a snack? Well make it. Because there is no store or 7/11 open in your world. No one is cleaning up or restocking for the break of day. Nope. Everyone got a day job because you said to. This also goes for holidays. No stores open. No going to the movies. No groceries. No Black Friday! All these things will roll over to the next day. Your wait times for most places are going to quadruple. That one hour wait for internet support that once was? Gone. Now? God only knows. You may as well be in line at the DMV. That would be what would happen if everyone sucked it up and got a day job that you suggested. Respect workers across the board. The night crew are there to make everyday life easier for everyone else.
If your roomie is making noise and bringing up your loud night habits?, it’s probably a passive aggressive “see how you like it” situation. Be kind.
