I'm posting this here because my friends probably don't want to hear me too much or it'll seem like gloating.
I moved across the country 3 years ago to escape from the shitty town I grew up in. I didn't have a job lined up, so I took the first job I could find. Private security for $11/hr. It was terrible work and terrible pay. Then I started working in medical collections, which was equally terrible, but it paid about twice as much, so I dealt with it. While working there, I took a class for a certification to get a better job. I finally found one and took a pay cut because I got to work from home and the work felt better. I still struggled with bills, but I didn't hate going to work.
I started as a contractor a little over a year ago and they finally offered me a full time position. I'll be getting paid nearly $30/hr and I get a month of paid time off a year. I've finally made it somewhere that I can be financially comfortable with a good work life balance. I mean, i work in my underwear while watching Netflix. What could be better?
I'm also able to work overtime, so with that, I'll be making around $68,000 a year. I was making $35,000, so that's nearly double.
