I see most people on here saying how they stream from their desktop to their VR device so that they aren't limited by file sizes etc, so I switched from storing files on my Samsung S7 to using Skybox on my iMac and streaming to Skybox player on my phone with GearVR, but the experience just isn't the same. While not terrible, videos are a bit laggy and jerky every 10-20 seconds.

My iMac is in a different room to my router, and I am viewing in a different room again, but I did an internet speed test and got a download speed of 83.7Mbps and a upload speed of 17.4Mbps with the result saying my internet speed is "very fast"... so where is the issue here? Or is streaming never as good as playing a video direct from the phones SD card and most people just put up with it?
