I have read so many threads, user comments, watched as many videos as I could and I am still having such a hard time deciding.
I recently put the money down on an Odyssey . I know the Odyssey is inside out tracking that works fairly well except in certain cases where your hand will be behind your head or back for extended periods of time. I also know the O has a WAY better screen with little to no SDE. The main plus that I see is that I could eventually buy knuckles and lighthouses and get them to work with the O when they are available.
Now, the Rift. Obviously Superior tracking with 3 lighthouses compared to the O . Controllers are best in market right now to (at least till knuckles releases). It has better Sweet Spot and IPD adjustments (even though I have no clue what IPD i would be). It has a better storefront and exclusives and it runs great with most all games and storefronts.
The rift won't be upgrade-able per-say especially since Oculus is going more for the Mobile/standalone market. The O seems compatible with future tech. The rift is also more comfortable than the O so everyone says.
I plan to play Skyrim VR, Subnautica, The Forest, Lone Echo, and any other fun games especially to show it off to other people. I will be sharing this with my Fiance as well so I would want something that will fit her head as well. I wear glasses though they aren't bulky so they should fit in both the rift and the O . My play area is going to be in my office/computer room so it will be semi small. If I had to guess, I would say 4foot by 7-8foot or something along those lines. I could potentially make that a bit bigger if I remove the couch from my room.
Please talk to me and help me decide as I feel that I am going insane. I am sure that I will be happy with whatever I get, but I want to avoid buyers remorse. Visuals do matter to me, but at the same time, I don't want tracking annoyances, set-up annoyances, or shitty feeling control. sadly it all matters to me I guess :(
Am I just choosing to buy at the wrong time?
Further Info - I got the O for $454 new after shipping. The Rift I can get on Amazon for $415 and that includes an extra lighthouse. I can also use my prime rewards on here to and get 5% back when paying with my amazon card. Is there somewhere cheaper to buy this though?
The O won't get delivered until the first or second week of Feb. The Rift I could get form Amazon this weekend.
My friend is getting a Pimax 5K if that matters at all.
