Local Knowledge?

Been at least 15 years since I visited, planning on driving to OC early May for a week, coming with my wife, son and her parents. Want to stay on the ocean side, north of the boardwalk where the beaches are quieter. Mid to north OC. 2 bedroom unit preferably with a balcony and a pool on site. Any suggestions? I’m ok with something a bit outdated as long as it’s clean and in the right side of the street.
