Suggested settings for VCR that has HDMI output

I'm trying to figure out a good settings to convert some old family videos to digital. I don't see any posts about capturing VHS tapes using a VCR with HDMI output. No convertor. The player I'm using came from my grandparent's house and it is a LG RC897T. I was surprised to see it does in fact do HDMI out for VHS. Looking online it says it does some upscaling.

I was thinking of capturing with 1080P settings and using a filter to make it 4:3 since it says it upscales it? I'm 100% open to suggestions. Should I capture it at a lower resolution? Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
