Hi all, I recently downloaded Oblivion after not playing it for close to a decade and not getting very far into the game when I did. I did a lot of reading about the leveling problem, but frankly started to get overwhelmed by the amount of preplanning required and just decided to go with the flow. Well, that was a mistake. I'm currently a level 12 battlemage (did a custom class, but my playstyle is basically mage who wears heavy armor and uses a blade) and enemies are getting harder and I'm having a difficult time killing them. Major skills are destruction, illusion, alchemy, conjuration, restoration, heavy armor, and blade.

I've made some custom spells and am at journeyman level destruction, but my more powerful spells take half or more of my mana and I've barely made a dent in the enemy. Feels like my blade is hardly doing damage. Is there anyway I can fix my character at this point, or do I just have to make a new character and focus on 5/5/5 or 5/5/1 leveling? I'm playing umodded and prefer to keep it that way.

Any help would be appreciated, and sorry in advance for being a noob!
