It'd be my girlfriend and I, with her moving due to a huge job opportunity within her company. I'm in grad school, so I'd likely look to transfer, or look for a full time job to get us established.
We currently live in the city, in a fairly safe neighborhood that borders a couple higher-crime neighborhoods, so we've developed our "street smarts" so to speak, and any fear of crime etc isn't a major concern for us.
We like doing things outdoors, love restaurants, bars, and music. We're big sports fans. I'm a pretty big geek myself, from video games to board games to comics.
I understand rent is going to go up significantly, probably double. Is $3000/month a good ballpark, depending on area?
Some of my main questions:
-Neighborhoods to look at first? Any to avoid?
-Would it be a good idea to sell one or both of our cars? Or is driving in the area necessary/unavoidable?
-Are most areas walkable/bikeable? We're in an area where a 15 minute walk or bike ride gets us to most of our favorite places in our neighborhood. We're very open to public transit, but we don't currently use Atlanta's much as it's under-developed.
Thanks ahead of time for any info/help, and my apologies for being redundant, but a search for "Atlanta" in the subreddit didn't yield anything.
