So our back yard has a 5 foot fence then the neighbors section and we've cut 0.75m wide 9m long of concrete out of the edge of the ...driveway? Patio? and we are wanting to put some shrubs or trees in for privacy
Ideally something that will grow around 2.5m tall & wont grow super wide. Or is easily and happily trimmed.
Gets full sun all day
In Summer it gets very dry, , in winter it gets somewhat wet (The concrete angles to that side then down the driveway)
We get mild frosts (Manawatu)
The soil is solid clay to approx 1 m, then sand, obviously we will dig out a hole but the soil is terrible.
Preferred but not required
Ideally I'd like productive plants - something that produces fruit etc, though low effort (Like Pears?) as we may eat some, but mostly to give away. I also realise this is unlikely.
We originally thought of Dodonea Viscosa (Purlpe or Green AkeAke) though they grow to 4m
Thought of clumping Bamboo, but they're hard to get rid of and spread.
Not to keen on Camelias as trimmed into a hedge the ends of branches stick out & look spikey.
I'd love to hear some ideas or suggestions
