Should I leave courts for other state service?

Post Body

I am a lawyer, I work in the court system where I’ve been for more than 10 years. Although I like the work, we have been in 5 days a week for a long time and it doesn’t seem like any hybrid opportunities are coming. I am really really tired of it. It makes me want to make a change.

Also, the salary is absurd compared to the private sector. It’s completely non-competitive. And pretty much all firms allow hybrid work. But I’m worried about work life balance, and I am proud to be a public servant.

I thought maybe I should look at other opportunities in state government. Sure, the limited promotional opportunities, problems with tier 6, low morale, and effects of years of austerity will be the same. But at least various agencies have telecommuting policies.

I recently discovered this sub and read a ton of wfh threads. It sounds like wfh is constantly under threat and could be taken away at any moment. I don’t want to switch only to have wfh be taken away or have managers who are hostile to it.

Thoughts? Advice? Any agencies that seem like they’d be better to seek out?

What’s so good about the courts compared to other state agencies and what’s so good about CSEA Judiciary?
