Overthecap.com finally has detailed contract information for Austin Howard and Breno Giocomini, so I thought I'd look at how they compare and if we should be happy with what appears to be at least a slight downgrade at right tackle.

Looking at the average annual salaries, Howard is set to average 6 million per year versus 4.5 for Giocomini. Point one for Idzik managing to cost the team less over the life of the contract, but things are more interesting when we look at the structures and guarantees

Howard's contract has 7.9 million in guaranteed money versus 7 million for Giocomini, which may look like a win for the Jets, but the structures clearly favor the contract Oakland was able to work.

Howard's 7.9 million in guarantees are comprised of a 5 million dollar roster bonus in 2014 and his entire 2014 base salary of 2.9, meaning the Raiders were able to put all of the guaranteed money up front and ensure that Howard could be cut without dead money in any of the years after 2014.

Giocomini's contract isn't necessarily unfriendly, but it's not safe in the way Howard's is. 2 million of the 7 million in guarantees will be paid up from as part of a roster bonus and base salary, as well as 2.5 million in signing bonus pro-rated over the four year contract. The remainder of the guaranteed money comes in the form of 2.5 million in base salary in 2015. This means the Jets are likely to keep Giocomini on for at least two seasons to avoid more dead money than they would like.

Overall, both of these contracts are team friendly and I think paying less for Giocomini over the life of the contract will end up being the better move, but if Howard was willing to take no guaranteed money after 2014, it does beg the question why he didn't stay on board in a relatively safe cap-year for the Jets.
