I've been a big fan of Wrecked for a while now, both as a frequent visitor to NYC and now as a new resident, and I've really noticed a big shift the last few times I've been. Yes, the music continues to be amazing, but the vibes are a bit off. The friendly, inclusive vibe I originally fell in love with seems to be vanishing, and it seems to be becoming a gathering place for a particular type of stand off-ish, not very nice gay. Lots of guys just standing around, not looking particularly interested in the music. Way less of the smiling at strangers and chatting them up than I used to see even a year ago.
Again, I'm pretty new to the city but I'm told the reason for this is the influx of gays from Hell's Kitchen bringing all their Mean Girls-isms with them. Yes, many of these guys are super hot but the affects on the overall environment of the party are disappointing.
What are some other inclusive, music first queer dance parties that I should know about? Yes, I do enjoy occasionally hooking up at parties too so that element is also welcome, but the focus should be on the music (preferably techno and/or house). I've previously been to Altaer and Merge and really enjoyed those, so similar vibes would be great!
