Though I’m generally a sociable person, I’m mostly good at talking to new people in a more controlled environment like a house party or non-partying social events. In highly stimulating environments like parties or clubs, I’m completely shunned socially and get very awkward. Part of the problem is usually the music gets very loud at these venues, and for somebody who doesn’t speak English natively, I have a hard time understanding and keeping up with a conversation at these events. But also I think another problem is social insecurities, anxiety, and overthinking, which tend to be amplified at these events for me. Yesterday I went to HMD, and it was really fun, but part of me wish that I would have been more socially proactive.
